Clark and Rina Miller were married in 2013, and now have a daughter, Kazeema.
As of October 1st, 2014, we are pleased to share that Clark and Rina Miller are indefinitely serving as development workers on the ground in the Philippines, representing G.O.D. Int'l. They are located in a small town just outside Tacloban City, the area in which we are establishing our South East Asia hub.
Tacloban became a popular name in international news last year, as it was hit the hardest by Typhoon Haiyan on November 8th 2013--just two weeks after our South East Asia regional team had decided to focus our work in this particular area of the Philippines.
Clark worked alongside Shaun Galford and Craig Duffy to conduct an 8-week seminar on the book of Genesis in the Cebu City jail with 8 men. Adult education in among the incarcerated demographic offers the opportunity for continued rehabilitation.
Clark Miller was a student at the Institute for G.O.D. Int'l beginning in 2007, and met Rina in 2008 during service with our organization in the Philippines when she was serving with us as a cultural consultant. The couple married in February of 2013 in the Olongapo City, Philippines. They now have a 1-year old daughter, Kazeema.
Clark is a graduate of the Biblical Studies Program at the Institute and is primarily focused on the need of youth empowerment in the Philippines. In a country with almost 4 million out-of-school youth, this is a significant need – particularly with the loss of social and educational infrastructure after Typhoon Haiyan.
Wherever there a group of children, Rina finds herself facilitating impromptu activities. Her energy, creativity and love for children are a real gift in communities full of children looking for organized activities.
Rina was given a scholarship from G.O.D. Int'l to receive a Social Work degree from Columban College in Olongapo City from 2008-2012. This education allowed her to become informed with the government programs associated with aiding the poor. In addition, she has gained field experience in working with and advocating for youth at risk.
More recently, with their move to Tacloban, the Millers’ responsibilities have shifted towards finding land for developing our organization’s hub. We recognize that part of having a long-term impact on the people in the Philippines is finding our home among them. Rina has been an asset in this venture as well, as she grew up just outside Tacloban City and lived there until she was 22. Her social network as well as her familiarity with the area have aided in the search process.
The wreckage left behind by Typhoon Haiyan was overwhelming. Beyond all the statistics are tens of thousands still in need 11 months after the storm. Clark and Rina are aiding in feedings, children’s programs and counseling opportunities.
In addition to finding land, Clark and Rina are involved with Pastor David and Lyn Pica at a local ministry in Tacloban City still focused on relief efforts 11 months after the typhoon. While some recovery has taken place, there are still tens of thousands living in makeshift tents struggling to meet everyday needs.
We are excited to continue working with Clark and Rina as projects develop in Leyte with our ministry’s work. Pray for them as they continue to search out land, and work on the day-to-day to meet the needs of their neighbors. Stay tuned for on-the-field updates from the Miller family coming soon!
